this is the first movie after i came down to bangalore.. here ticket is much much costlier than in chennai.. one ticket in Lido theatre costed me Rs.235 .. in chennai, i can get a good experience for Rs.60 in sangam theatre. the movie is much hyped and gautham menon lived up to the expectation. ppl say this has the life path of the director himself. anyway the move is simply amazing and i would rate it next to my all time favourite alaipayuthey.. right from the begining till the end it is all sentiments and its like something we see in our life or over the next door. so many things to wow about the movie, be it gautham menon's direction, or surya's matured acting or evergreen simran's perfection or samira reddy romance scene.
everything is simply superb except dhivya, who seem to have no charm and the screen play is little bit slow, but that gives the time to grasp the sentiments. the disaster which took the life of samira reddy still stays in my heart. in short the intersting part of the movie is surya's romance with samira, that part moves very fast. its a must see movie. i have seen few people saying this is the worst movie they have seen( siva is one of those, this mara mandayan don't seem to have good taste :-) ).

screen makes life easy
I am sure we all have problem maintaining a lot of windows opened in the desktop and getting stressed out with Alt-Tab :-( . I was comfortable during those Linux days where the KDE terminal would allow me to open multiple windows over the terminal. I was searching for such an utility for unix telnet session after I switched to Unix. Thanks to Ashok ( of Force10) for introducing me to this utility. I was getting some gyan in his desktop and it was at that time I saw this wonder boy using this tool. I started using it and loviinngg it. I normally open a telnet session to unix box and from then I open a screen session( like screen -S testbed1). Then from the screen session I open multiple windows, for each of the testbed components or code or any other shells. i name each window and use function keys to traverse between windows. I am listing the commands that I frequently use in my daily work. This might be helpful to some beginner some day or other.
1. command line options
-list ===> list all the sessions
-d [pid.sessionname] ===> detach a session.
-r [pid.sessionname] ===> reconnect a detached session
-r owner/[pid.sessionname] ===> reconnect to another user's session
-wipe ===> wipe out all dead sessions
-x ===> Attach to an existing session on sharing basis
-S ===> name a session
2. Create a new session
Ctrl-a c
3. Get help
Ctrl-a ?
4. Start/stop logging session
Ctrl-a H
[a file called screenlog.x will be created in the home directory]
5. Detach a session
Ctrl-a d
6. Detach a session and logout ( power detach)
Ctrl-a D
7. Switching between windows
Ctrl-a ' ===> prompt for window number
Ctrl-a " ===> display a list of window to choose to switch
Ctrl-a 0..9 ===> switch to window 0 to 9
Ctrl-a Ctrl-a ===> switch to the previous window
Ctrl-a n ===> switch to the next window
Ctrl-a p ===> switch to the previous window
bindkey -k k1 select 0 ===> have this in the rc file. this implies F1 is mapped to
window_0
8. Name a window
Ctrl-a A
9. Clear the window
Ctrl-a C
10. Lock a session
Ctrl-a x
11. Enter copy mode
Ctrl-a Esc
12. Split the current region into two new ones
Ctrl-a S
13.Delete all regions but the current one.
Ctrl-a Q
14. Commands
to enter the command line mode ==> Ctrl-a :
quit ===> kill all windows and terminate screen
histroy ===> history of previous commands

sakarakatti marudaani
a r rahman.. this name reminds me of the mesmerising roja songs.. he is lost somewhere in the middle, just showing his face now and then... today marudaani from sakarakatti movie definitely takes me to a no man land.. simply superb... madhushree's ( only now i am hearing this name :-) as i just used to listen to music, but don't use to check the singer name, but this voice made me to check the singer's name) voice is stunning.. added to that hymn by rahman in background add to ambience..

vim : record and play
hmm.. i have been using vim for quite sometime now.. for the past 2 months, I am forced to
work on windows ( :-) very sad) as I moved to a new company.. but and i tried to install cygwin and that seemed to be much unstable.. so as the last resort option, i opted for slickEdit with vi emulation.. and all of a sudden i was thinking hard to recollect how i would be able to do 'record and play' in vi/vim... huh after sometime i realised it, here is how it should be done,
qa [ start recording]
do the blah stuff
q [ stop recording]
@a [ play once]
@22a [ play 22 times]
kool is it... this is the power of vi/vim.. happy vim-ing..

Online Backup
online backup!!! i have been thinking of this for few years.. before 2 years i have tried gMail Drive and found it to be a waste of time affair ( i think its a junk 3rd party utility which is a wrapper around the gmail ) .. unfortunately i didn't hit on any tool which would catch my imagination till now.. its only today that i got to know about `mozy`, a dream utility( i am late to get this utilitiy as i don't really browse around for utilities unless its really bothering me ) .. its offered by EMC ( acquired from Berkeley Data Systems) and only that EMC brand made me to try this software though i was initially hesitant to try it because of security reasons. looks like mozy encrypts the data and so i thought my personal data will be pretty much safe.
here we gooo.. i created an account and installed the software which they provided, and all these things were done in less than 5 mins :-) and i just did backup my firefox bookmarks..

serv-U ftp connection refused after changing IP
I changed the IP of my system from A to B due to some network reconfiguration. And all of a sudden serv-U-ftp server stoped working.
I thought logically a restart of the ftp server should make things ok.
But it didn't . When I was digging through the startup logs and init files,
I found it was trying to bind to the old IP A.
I had to change that in "Program Files/serv-U/servudaemon.ini" file and it worked fine.
